Starkville Knocks Off Alabama Powerhouse Hoover
CALEDONIA – Starkville put together an early statement win in the Cavalier's Classic, hosted by Caledonia by knocking off Alabama high school powerhouse, Hoover, 59-49, on Saturday.
The double-digit win snapped a 48-game winning streak by the Bucs, who have won the last four AHSAA Class 7A State Championships.
The Jackets got off to a fast start and limited the Bucs' offense through the first 16 minutes of the contest. SHS held a 17-4 lead after the first quarter and added 12 points in the second quarter to take a 19-point, 29-10 lead into halftime.
SHS knew that HHS would make a run at it in the second half as the Bucs posted a 20-point third quarter to get back in the game. The Jackets fended off a late rally by the Bucs to post the win and extend their season-opening winning streak to four games.
Senior TJ Warren led the Jackets with 28 points. Senior Jaden Tate had 20.
SHS travels to rival Tupelo on Thursday, Nov. 20. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
