SHS Splits At Oxford Tournament
OXFORD - The Starkville softball team found itself on both ends of two one-run contests in the Oxford Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Jackets fell 8-7 to Center Hill to open the event and bounced-back to wrap up the day with a 2-01 win over Ripley.
In the morning game with the Mustangs, SHS put together a five-run third inning to erase a 4-1 deficit, but CHHS rallied regain the lead. SHS equalized with a run in the fifth, but the Mustangs posted the game-winning run in its half of the fifth.
Lailah Bush led the Lady Jackets at the plate with a pair of hits, ioncluding an RBI base hit. Junior Sadie Foote, sophomore Andley Pylate and freshman Aly Foote all drove in a run.
In the nightcap, the Lady Jackets broke up a 1-1 contest in ther seventh inning on junior Kalyn Kent's fielder's choice.
The Foote sisters combined for three-of-the-four hits by the Lady Jackets. Sadie Foote had two hits in the win.
Andley Pylate tossed a complete game in the circle and limiting the Tigers to three hits and striking out five.
