Jackets Advance to Region 2-7A Title Game
OXFORD - A 17-point second quarter erased a deficit after the first quarter as Starkville advanced to the title game of the Region 2-7A Tournament with a 62-45 win over Murrah in Oxford.
The Jackets will face the Mavericks of Germantown on Friday night at the OHS Gym. The two clubs split the two meetings in the regular season.
After the Mustangs held a 14-12 lead after the first quarter, the Jackets' 17-point production in the second quarter gave the top-seed a 29-23 advantage at the halftime break. SHS extended the lead and took control of the semifinal match up with 23 points.
Senior Jaden Tate led the Black and Gold with 15 points, including seven points at the free throw line. Tate finished with three rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes of action. Senior Jerwan McCarter also reached double figures in the scoring column with 10 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double. He was credited with four steals and a pair of assists.
Senior Terrell Warrne, Jr., junior Ladanuel Jordan and Kobe Hendrix added nine points each, while sophomore Andricus Howard posted eight off the bench.
