Dominant Opening Quarter Leads To Big Road Win
JACKSON – Starkville put together a 24-point first quarter en route to 63-25 road win at Forest Hill in the metro Jackson area on Tuesday.
The week off from competition did not hamper the Jackets with the big first quarter effort, which led to their seventh straight win to open the 2025-26 season. It was a collective scoring effort as senior Terrel Warren was the only SHS player in double figures in the scoring column.
Warren posted 10 points in the win, followed by eight points from senior Jaden Tate. Freshman Jaylan Carlyle came off the bench for eight points and tallied five steals.
SHS took a 43-11 lead not the halftime break, allowing others to get minutes off the bench. The Jackets limited the Patriots to 31 percent shooting on the night and scored 28 points off of FHHS turnovers.
Senior Jerwan McCarter and junior Kobe Hendrix led SHS in rebounding with seven boards each.
Starkville travels to Columbus on Friday, Dec. 5 for a second meeting with the Falcons this season. The Jackets claimed a 69-48 decision on The Nest on November 13. Tip off in Columbus is set for 7:30 p.m.
