Strong Second Half Propels Jackets Past Tupelo
Seniors Jaden Tate and TJ Warren combine for 34 in the rivalry win on the road
TUPELO – Starkville put together a 42-point second-half effort to erase a three-point Tupelo lead at halftime to post a 70-53 road win on Thursday.
After trailing 31-28 at intermission, the Jackets outscored the Golden Wave, 22-4 in the third quarter to take a 50-35 advantage into the final quarter. SHS maintained the string offensive output with a 20-point effort in the last eight minutes.
The win pushes the Black and Gold's season-opening win streak to five games.
The senior tandem of Jaden Tate and TJ Warren led the Jackets in scoring as both finished with 17 points each. Junior Kobe Hendrix was the third Jacket to post double figures in the scoring column with 15 points.
Senior Jerwan McCarter was a point shy of being the fourth Jacket to reach double digits with nine points. He put together another strong night on the boards.
SHS returns to action on Tuesday with another out-of-state match up. The Jackets will face Arlington (Tenn.) High School in the Battle of the Borders in Olive Branch, Miss. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
