Jackets Walk Off Madison Central In Region Opener
STARKVILLE - For the second time in three games, junior Will Akers came through for Starkville in a clutch time as he beat out a double play attempt to plate the winning run on Tuesday over Madison Central.
Akers' fielders choice handed the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 win at Carlisle Stadium in the Region 2 opener for both clubs.
SHS struck first with a run in the first inning and added the second run in the third inning. Freshman Murphy Gordon lifted a fly ball to bring the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly. Gordon was involved in the second run in the third frame after reaching on an error, scoring Will Mooday.
The Jaguars equalized the game with a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
Moody and freshman Zay Spencer accounted for four of the six SHS hits. Moody reached base four times with a pair of walks. Sophomore Taj Prater and Marcus Hendrix II each had a hit.
Senior Tyson Knox tosse the first four innings with four strikeouts. Akers finished the final three innings and limited MCHS to a hit.
